Intern, Team America Rocketry Challenge

Purpose: Looking to enhance your resume, gain access to Washington networking opportunities, and exposure to a well-established cutting edge industry? Then intern with the Aerospace Industries Association. AIA is the nation’s premier trade association representing aerospace and defense manufacturers.

We are currently seeking an intern to support the association’s Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC).

Nature and Scope of Work:

TARC is the world’s largest model rocket contest designed to encourage middle and high school students to study math and science and pursue careers in aerospace. This position is responsible for supporting various aspects of long-term event management and planning for the national TARC competition held in May.

Interns will gain exposure to event management skills including public relations, fundraising, and media relations, as well as the experience of working in the policy environment of a Washington trade association.

Typical duties include:

  • Processing team information in the existing data base
  • Drafting memos and letters
  • Helping to develop a plan for syncing NSTA, USSEF, and TARC events for next spring
  • Helping design and execute an outreach campaign to potential new teams
  • Supporting outreach activities via social networking sites such as Facebook
  • Scheduling and confirming appointments
  • Overseeing the inventory of contest supplies

Interns may also get the chance to pursue research and policy interests, however, the primary focus will be on supporting the TARC competition.

Compensation is $100 a month to help cover transportation cost.

This position reports directly to the TARC Manager.
