Technical Coordinator, NextGen Institute

Works with the Executive Director concerning tasks, issues, and other assignments undertaken by the NextGen Institute. Responsible for assisting with efforts to solicit, select and coordinate private industry expert participation on the working groups. Assists with formulating recommendations to Board of Directors for identification of successful bids. Completes any and all responsibilities that may be assigned by the Institute Management Council in the execution of its responsibilities.

This position provides a full range of staff services to the Executive Director, NextGen Institute. These staff services include:
  • Direct support of the nine working groups supporting the development of the JPDO Integrated Work Plan.
  • Assists in the organization and execution of Institute Management Council (IMC) and IMC Excomm meetings and telecoms.
  • Supports the Executive Director by assisting the Administrative Assistant in NextGen website development and maintenance by insuring review of the site on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Organizes and executes NextGen Institute selection board procedures to insure Working Groups are staffed with appropriate Subject Matter Experts (SME) to execute their planning functions. Assists in the development of Work Group Need Statements.
  • Drafts memos, letters, briefings and various communications for the Executive Director and in support of the IMC.
  • Coordinates with JPDO staff and contract support personnel to insure industry comments/inputs are appropriately integrated into the Integrated Work Plan.
  • Monitors Working Group membership participation, reviews Working Group meeting minutes and agendas, and monitors Working Group Master Schedules to insure Working Group tasks are being completed with appropriate NextGen Institute support.
Desired Qualifications:
  • 4 year degree in related field.
  • 5 – 8 years civil aviation related experience, i.e. cockpit, ATC or dispatch. (Waiverable with specific aviation planning experience)
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Broad understanding of air transportation systems.
  • Awareness of relevant National Airspace System issues and sensitivity to industry positions.
  • Must have highest level of ethical standards and integrity.
  • Ability to work with people toward consensus decisions.
  • High motivation for development of executive skills.
National Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. (NCAT) is a non-profit corporation that provides a national focal point for the coordination of scientific research and development of advanced technologies predicated upon a cooperative relationship between government, academia, and business in the public and national interest. NCAT also analyzes government policies concerning research and development of advanced technologies and to formulate improved approaches to such research and development in the national and public interest.

Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) Institute was created by an Other Transactions Agreement (OTA) between NCAT and the FAA in March, 2005 to provide the fair, open, and balanced means for government and private sector collaboration on the NextGen. It also allows execution of contracts in support of the JPDO’s mission. The Institute operates in support of the inter-agency Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO). This partnership enables collective enterprise between government and the private sector in order to coordinate goals and priorities, and to define, develop, and implement a NextGen capable of meeting the safety, security, capacity, efficiency, and productivity demands of 2025.
