What the European Union's (EU) REACH Regulation Means for your Business (Even if you're not in the EU)
The REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation (and Restriction) of Chemicals) regulation entered into force throughout the European Union (EU) in June 2007, with phased implementation and significant work required before 2009. REACH moves the burden of EU chemicals regulation from the government to industry and will result in significant changes to the way that all aerospace companies buy and use chemicals and the products made from those chemicals. REACH impacts all chemicals (including alloys, paints and powders) used across the aerospace industry, including those that are bought outside the EU throughout the global supply chain.
AIA together with major aerospace manufacturers recognises the impact that this regulation can have on companies, both large and small. To address this, workshops to help businesses understand REACH have been organised and will be run at different venues across the country. The Workshops are available to Member Company participants and their suppliers.
The objectives of the REACH Workshops are to:
- Inform manufacturers and suppliers about the main requirements of REACH and how it will be implemented.
- Provide examples of issues known to be of concern to engineering manufacturing companies.
- Assist decision–makers to initiate strategies and policies for getting ready for REACH implementation and compliance within their businesses.
Workshops will be held on:
