Statement by AIA President and CEO John W. Douglass on the appointment of Edward C. Aldridge as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics

March 9, 2001-WASHINGTON, D.C. The aerospace industry is very pleased that Edward (Pete) C. Aldridge has been nominated to be under secretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics by President Bush. He is a distinguished former Secretary of the Air Force and is widely respected in the aerospace community. He understands how policy is developed and implemented. He knows Washington, especially Congress, the Pentagon, and the defense acquisition process. He also knows how industry operates and knows the industry leadership across the country. I believe he will be a particularly strong advocate to increase research and development funding supporting aerospace, one of AIA's priorities.

There are many pressing issues that Pete will face the day he steps into the Pentagon, including recharging acquisition reform, civil military integration, transatlantic cooperation, industry consolidation and pressing for multiyear programs and other initiatives to maximize each dollar. I can think of no one who is more ready for the challenge.
