Statement by AIA President and CEO John W. Douglass on the Resignation of NASA Administrator Dan Goldin
October 18, 2001- WASHINGTON, D.C. - Dan Goldin was the longest serving administrator in NASA’s history. He guided the agency through some very difficult times and was in the forefront of running the agency with fewer people on less money than had ever been done before. He was the father of the "faster, better, cheaper" concept for very highly technical programs. He served at a time of enormous challenge in civil aviation as the industry faces major problems in dealing with aviation safety and advanced technology for ground control systems.
He leaves an agency well prepared to address these formidable issues. Dan has served with distinction and has achieved a level of accomplishment that has set a new standard of excellence for NASA.
We urge the Bush administration to appoint a new administrator as soon as possible to carry on the critical work that this outstanding agency performs.
