AIA Appoints New Communications Council Chair
WASHINGTON, D.C., February 27 - Larry McCracken, vice president of public relations at The Boeing Company, has been appointed chair of the Aerospace Industries Association's Communications Council for 2002. He succeeds Dennis Signorovitch, vice president of communications at Honeywell. Phyllis Piano, vice president of corporate affairs and communications at the Raytheon Company has been named vice chair of the Communications Council.
Composed of senior executives from AIA member companies, the Communications Council is the primary link between the Board of Governors and the association. The council provides communications guidance, direction, and strategy on critical matters affecting the industry and serves as a conduit for information and best practices for AIA members.
McCracken directs worldwide news media efforts for Boeing. He joined Boeing after leading McDonnell Douglas's portion of the award-winning communications efforts involved with the merger of the two aerospace companies. He had been the vice president of corporate communications for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis since January 1996. He joined McDonnell Douglas in 1992 as director of communications for the C-17 military transport program in Long Beach, California. Previously, he had been corporate director of media relations for Raytheon Company in Lexington, Massachusetts.
McCracken completed a 21-year Air Force career in public affairs in 1986 as the military assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs at the Pentagon. He is a 1965 graduate of the U.S. Air Force academy and has a master's degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma.
