Statement from John W. Douglass, AIA President and CEO, on the Planned Nomination of Marion Blakey to Head the FAA
WASHINGTON, D.C., July 18 - The Aerospace Industries Association welcomes the administration's plans to nominate Marion C. Blakey, currently chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, for a five year term as Administrator of the FAA. This is a critical time for the aviation industry, and we are pleased to see that the president has given this nomination high priority. Given Ms. Blakey's outstanding performance at the NTSB, and at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, we urge Congress to quickly confirm her nomination so that the position will not go vacant upon the expiration of current FAA Administrator Jane F. Garvey's term.
The aerospace industry would like to express its thanks to Ms. Garvey for her able leadership during one of the most difficult and trying times in the history of aviation. She has worked tirelessly for the last five years for greater safety and efficiency in our nation's air transportation system and we would like to wish her the very best in her future endeavors.
