WASHINGTON, D.C., April 25- The Aerospace Industries Association announces the appointment of Michael Romanowski to the position of Assistant Vice President, Civil Aviation. Romanowski holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University, and joins AIA with a distinguished record of service to Sikorsky Aircraft and Pratt and Whitney. He has represented United Technologies as the Vice Chair of the AIA Civil Aviation Council and was also the Vice Chair of AIA's Propulsion Committee during his tenure at Pratt & Whitney. Romanowski is well known within the industry and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for his contribution to the FAA Safer Skies program as the engine manufacturers' representative on the Commercial Aviation Safety Team, and has worked on many other initiatives on behalf of AIA.

AIA established the new position of Assistant Vice President, Civil Aviation to strengthen the ability of the organization to address critical issues at a time of unprecedented challenge for the aviation industry. Romanowski will assume responsibility for AIA's civil aviation safety programs as well as regulatory issues pertaining to civil aviation. AIA President and CEO John W. Douglass said, "With his extensive technical background and experience in building consensus within the aviation industry, Romanowski will be an important member of the AIA team."

In addition, AIA has named Remy Nathan to be the new Director of International Affairs. Before joining AIA, Nathan spent five years at the US-ASEAN Business Council. ASEAN is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which includes the countries of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Vietnam. In this capacity, he represented U.S. multinationals with operations in Southeast Asia as the Director of Malaysia and Brunei Affairs. He also coordinated activities for the Council's Defense & Security Working Group. Nathan traveled extensively throughout Asia and worked closely with decision makers in the U.S. and in Southeast Asia to bolster U.S. private sector competitiveness in the Southeast Asian region.

Nathan received his M.A. in International Economics and Southeast Asian Studies from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and his B.A. in Government and Foreign Affairs and China Studies from the University of Virginia.
