AIA Annouces New Assistant Vice President of Technical Operations
WASHINGTON, D.C. August 9 – Bruce Mahone, Director of Space Policy at the Aerospace Industries Association, has been appointed Assistant Vice President of Technical Operations at AIA.
AIA President and CEO John W. Douglass said, “Bruce Mahone is a capable, experienced engineer with a very successful track record. We are pleased to have him assume a critical leadership position here at AIA.”
In his new position Mahone will be responsible for coordinating the activities of the Technical Operations Council, which is responsible for technical program management, operations, and industrial base issues that affect the development and production of aerospace systems. The council develops policy, requirements, and standards relating to technical and operations issues.
Bruce Mahone has been working aerospace issues in the Washington area since 1988. As Director of Space Policy for AIA, he served as Executive Secretary of AIA's Space Council. The Space Council interfaces with numerous government agencies and congressional committees on wide ranging issues such as national space policy, government/industry partnerships, and licensing of commercial launches. Mahone has represented the U.S. aerospace industry in numerous settings, including congressional hearings, press conferences, and industry conferences.
In previous assignments with AIA and the American Gear Manufacturers Association Mahone has addressed aerospace issues including Defense Department acquisition reform, including transition of military specifications to non-government standards, and international standardization of space systems. Prior to entering association work, he held various positions in engineering consulting, college lecturing, electrical design, and research and development. Experience as a mechanical engineer, computer consultant, researcher and editor have contributed to Mahone’s vast expertise.
Mahone received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bridgeport. He holds an M.A. in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from the University of California, Los Angeles.
