Successfully plans and executes all aspects of the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC), including serving as liaison to parties involved with the contest. This position also assists with Industrial Base and Workforce Development initiatives.
Nature and Scope of Work:
Reports directly to the Director of Workforce Development. Operational direction may also come from the leadership of the National Security and Acquisition Policy Division.
Responsible for managing and executing all aspects of AIA’s Team America Rocketry Challenge. Acts as liaison for TARC with organizations and individuals including registered teams, AIA member companies, academic institutions, Congressional staff, the National Association of Rocketry, NASA, the Department of Defense, consultants, and AIA staff.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Manages and executes all aspects of TARC on time and within project budget.
Develops and implements plans to enhance and grow all aspects of the TARC program including adding sponsors, building relationships with other AIA and non-AIA Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics initiatives, and providing a robust, positive experience for students and teachers participating in the program.
Collaborates with Membership Division and Events Manager to secure sponsorship and other relevant forms of support from AIA member companies. Works with Events manager and accounting to develop and manage budget for TARC. Ensures sponsors are indentified, funding commitments are secured and invoiced, and appropriate follow-up is conducted.
Maintains current and complete rocket contest materials including the application, rules, handbook, and frequently asked questions;
Develops and initiates extensive marketing plans and outreach to educational organizations and schools;
Processes applications in a timely manner and resolves issues with pre- and post- registration. Maintains contact with registered teams nationwide to ensure teams are well informed of program requirements, deadlines and activities;
Tracks all aspects of the TARC schedule. Keeps participants and stakeholders up to date on critical contest deadlines as well as program status/progress;
Prepares expense reports and reconciles billing invoices with AIA accounting team;
Manages logistics for the national finals including venues, catering, set up, staffing, and exhibits. Invites to distinguished guests and speakers; prepares letters to industry and government officials to request publicity and support in advance of the finals and attendance and photo opportunities at the finals event; collaborates with other departments and member companies to increase press coverage of the event; executing a successful national finals for students, guests, and staff.
Plans and manages all aspects for winning national team to participate in the international competition, including coordination with sponsors and AIA International Division to secure appropriate commitments for a successful experience.
Contributes to the larger AIA initiative of increasing awareness of and improving the image of the aerospace industry. Collaborates with other AIA members to develop methods to connect TARC participants to aerospace opportunities in sponsoring companies, schools and government. Coordinates AIA participation in trade shows and conferences related to increasing TARC participation.
