- Arms Export Control Act (AECA)
- First passed in 1968 to control transfers of weapons and technology from the U.S. to foreign countries, and to provide a framework for cooperative defense projects. The act has been amended many times. The president is authorized to establish a list of defense articles and services, known as the U.S. Munitions List (Section 38 of the AECA), and to control the export and import of articles on that list. In practice, the State Department supervises the implementation of the AECA through the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
