Keeping America Strong: Advance U.S. Global Leadership in Aerospace and Defense

The United States has set the pace for the world in space. Maintaining this leadership requires an understanding of our dependencies and vulnerabilities in space along with a commitment to future generations.

America's Future Depends on Maintaining Space Leadership

In about the time it takes you to drive into a gas station, insert your credit card in the pump, fill the tank, take your receipt, and get back on the road, a foreign power can use a missile to disable the U.S. communications satellite that made your transaction possible.

Ever wondered how meteorologists can predict where an oncoming hurricane will strike our coastline? How the United States can detect when a rogue nation tests a nuclear device? How Google Earth works?

Utilizing space provides many benefits we take for granted. Communication satellites aid in global financial transactions and distribute television signals. Navigation and timing satellites enable Global Positioning System devices that help locate lost people and pets. Remote sensing satellites give scientists the ability to monitor Earth's environment. Observation satellites pinpoint the movement of major storm systems.
