AIA Joins EPA Smart Sectors Program
Statement by AIA President and CEO David F. Melcher announcing that the Aerospace Industries Association is joining the EPA’s Smart Sectors Program.
Arlington, Va. — The Aerospace Industries Association is pleased to announce its participation in the EPA’s Smart Sectors Program as part of our effort to promote environmental responsibility in the aerospace and defense sector. Our industry has a long record of environmental stewardship, and AIA member companies are continuously working on innovative solutions to improve the environmental performance of our products and factories.
EPA’s “Smart Sectors Initiative” is an innovative approach that will provide greater regulatory clarity, increased transparency and enable improved environmental outcomes sooner. The Smart Sector program enables permitting of new modern and expanded American manufacturing operations in a timely and predictable manner to support growing businesses while ensuring environmental protection. This is a great example of public-private collaboration that supports both protection of health and the environment, as well as a thriving economy.
AIA strongly supports EPA Administrator Pruitt’s approach of engaging industry on environmental policy. In our case, strong environmental stewardship also makes good business sense. Lighter, more efficient airframes and engines not only reduce noise and emissions, the reduced fuel burn lowers costs for operators and enhances the bottom line. We look forward to working with the administration to streamline our approach to achieving our mutual environmental goals.
