AIA Commends Gang of Six on Bipartisan Effort

The Aerospace Industries Association commends the “Gang of Six” for their work towards a bipartisan deficit reduction deal.

“We applaud the efforts of the Gang of Six to move forward to reduce ongoing deficit spending,” said AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey. “While there is a great deal of work to be done on the details of the plan and they must ensure that cuts are applied appropriately and not indiscriminately, they should be congratulated for their determination to work together to put our nation on a sound financial footing.”

Senators Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) presented the outline of a plan to move forward on spending caps, entitlement cuts and amendments to the tax code that could form the basis of a bipartisan plan forward for our country.

“We are hopeful that the Gang of Six plan could be the start of a sensible path forward that preserves our national security and our economic strength,” Blakey said. “We remain concerned that defense cuts will fall disproportionately on military modernization, increasing the danger that our troops will not get the best equipment possible today, and our nation will suffer a national security deficit in the future.”
