AIA Encouraged by FAA Extension

August 05, 2011

The Aerospace Industries Association is encouraged by passage of a FAA reauthorization extension today.

“We’re relieved Congress has extended FAA’s operations,” said AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey. “This will allow critical work to continue while Congress debates full reauthorization.”

The expiration of the previous extension resulted in furloughs to 4,000 FAA employees, stop work orders to approximately 70,000 construction workers and lost revenues exceeding $380 million.

“We’re very glad that Congress has decided to put Americans back to work,” Blakey said. “We urge them to take advantage of this spirit of compromise to pass a full reauthorization bill when Congress returns in September.”
