Statement by AIA President and CEO Marion Blakey on the Weapon Systems Acquisition Reform Act

May 21, 2009

We are encouraged that the defense reform bill passed by Congress will make the acquisition system more accountable and efficient. Bolstering the acquisition workforce and creating a senior position in the Defense Department responsible for cost estimating are important steps forward.

Areas that we hope the Defense Department will address in the near future are budget stability and establishing realistic requirements for programs. President Obama has said that contracting reform is a top priority and we look forward to working with the administration as the implementing regulations are developed.
