Florida's Space Coast community is preparing for a visit today from President Obama, who will discuss the future of the U.S. space program. Nearly 50 years ago, President Kennedy made his clarion call to go to the moon. The two men have much in common. Kennedy's presidency began on the heels of a period of high unemployment and inflation, and he had a costly war to finance.
Kennedy called for Americans to reach the moon within a decade and presented the plan to get us there. It is our hope that President Obama will similarly rise to the challenge and unveil a clear strategy for the future of this nation's space program. The consequences for failing to do so are as significant now as they were then.
