Space exploration: The end of an era?

There aren’t many times when office workers in Washington break away from their desks. But last month, people here at the Aerospace Industries Association were scampering from window to window to catch a glimpse of the space shuttle Discovery on its final journey.

The shuttle earned its honors after 30 years service as a workhorse for America’s space program, carrying astronauts to the International Space Station and conducting unparalleled scientific research. The attention given to the shuttle’s farewell flight around Washington proved that the dream of space flight is still alive in the hearts of the American people.
