Members of AIA's Executive Committee provide AIA's leadership perspective on the aerospace and defense industry..

The evenings were chilly but the discussion was hot at the AIA Board of Governors and Membership Meeting in Phoenix, Ariz., Nov. 16-18. AIA welcomed a record number of attendees at the 68th Annual Fall Meeting, which capped a record-breaking year for the association. Thirty-four new members joined AIA in 2010 while all existing members were retained.

REACh Workshop Eludes French Labor Woes

Labor unrest throughout France could not prevent the joint forces of AIA and ASD engineers, scientists and policy experts from meeting in October to resolve common issues in managing the needs and changes wrought by the EU Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restriction of Chemicals (REACh) regulation. The 13-member AIA delegation led by REACh Working Group Chair Sally Gestautas of Raytheon and Past Chair Dennis Hussey of Goodrich traveled to Toulouse, France, for a week long workshop with ASD colleagues to confer on chemical issue problem solving.

Third Quarter Results Do Not Disappoint

Third quarter earning announcements for the aerospace industry showed mixed, though largely positive results. Compared to one year ago, quarterly results and company outlooks continue to improve at a faster pace than expected.

Awards for Worker Safety Achievement

Worker safety and government policy were the focus of AIA's 2010 Fall Environment, Health and Safety Conference in Arlington, Va. Honeywell Aerospace, Raytheon and UTC's Sikorsky Aircraft took top honors in the Worker Safety Awards. Deputy OSHA Administrator Jordan Barab headlined the roster of government officials who briefed members on federal EHS issues impacting the aerospace industry.
