Motivated by the importance of stopping sequestration, more than 70 members of the Supplier Management Council marched to the Hill at its 2012 Fall Meeting during National Aerospace Week. SMC members showed their support by meeting with administration officials and members of Congress on the importance of reversing the automatic cuts to the defense budget and to important non-DOD programs.
Attendees met with and heard remarks from Deputy Administrator of NASA Lori Garver; Commerce Undersecretary for Industry and Security Eric Hirschhorn; Acting Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration Michael Huerta; Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Materiel Readiness Alan Estevez; and Commerce Undersecretary for International Trade Francisco Sánchez.
Throughout the two day meeting, the group participated in more than 120 meetings on Capitol Hill and attended dinner with members of AIA’s Executive Committee of the Board of Governors. Attendees also participated in the Senate Aerospace Caucus Breakfast hosted by Caucus Co-Chairs Senators Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), with special guest speaker Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Frank Kendall, and the Wings of Liberty reception honoring Representative Buck McKeon.
