Second Quarter 2002
On the strength of civil exports-up $0.9 billion-aerospace sales rose $1.1 billion during the quarter. Military exports, on the other hand, declined slightly. Orders fell sharply to its lowest level since the second quarter of 1999. Similarly, employment fell to its lowest level since before 1953. Higher revenues and lower [payroll] expenses raised profits to a three-year high.
