Third Quarter 2001
Aerospace sales increased 2% despite a 16% drop in exports--indicating a swing in deliveries to domestic customers. Orders began slowing (from record high levels) before 9/11. With the subsequent cancellations, deferments, and financial reassessments after 9/11, orders and profits plummeted--down 26% and 37%, respectively. The slight increase in employment does not reflect changes made at the end of the quarter.
