Third Quarter 2002
Orders and military exports grew in the third quarter of 2002, while all other indicators declined. Orders rebounded strongly (albeit from the lowest level in three years) and military exports increased 12%. Overall exports declined 4%--pulled down by a $1 billion decrease in civil exports. Total sales also declined slightly, but profits fell 20%. Employment continued its year-long decline. Employment now stands at the lowest level in at least five-decades!
