Third Quarter 1999
Aerospace industry sales declined nearly $3 billion during the third quarter of 1999. Lower civil exports accounted for half of that decline. Falling to a respectable annual rate of $6.4 billion, industry profits dropped by half. Industry employment continued to fall in the third quarter--down 21,000. Aerospace orders, on the other hand, rebounded 10% from a dip in the second quarter.
