WHEREAS,

The Aerospace Industries Association of America (AIA) is committed to promoting trade in the products and services of the aerospace industry throughout the United States and the world, and

WHEREAS,

AIA desires to provide a standardized basis on which electronic commerce may be conducted within the aerospace industry to reduce or eliminate multiple and divergent requirements and provide user-friendly, cost-effective solutions for use within the aerospace industry, and

WHEREAS,

The Electronic Commerce Working Group (ECWG) of the AIA Supplier Management Council has developed appropriate guidelines and related materials that provide a standardized basis on which electronic commerce can be conducted within the aerospace industry,

RESOLVED:

That AIA members should:

• Adopt, as company policy, the use of the ANSI ASC X12 Version 4010 Aerospace Industry Subset Implementation Convention (IC's) when conducting Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) with trading partners in the aerospace industry.
• Develop a plan and schedule, within six months of approval of this Resolution, for migrating to the IC's for EDI.
• Implement this Resolution in appropriate business processes.
• Inform the supplier community of the AIA member company's commitment to implement this Resolution.
• Promote the use of the EC Trading Partner Agreement Template and/or the EDI Trading Partner Agreement Template when establishing electronic business between trading partners.
• Implement IC's with those key company suppliers with whom EDI is conducted, or will be conducted in the future, within one year following development of the EDI Migration Plan.
• Implement a process within the AIA member company to accept the IC's from the aerospace industry supplier community.
• Continue to support the efforts of the Electronic Commerce Working Group in collaborating with primes and suppliers to harmonize electronic business practices, monitor the implementation of this Resolution, and continue to leverage emerging technologies.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that AIA will:

Maintain an Internet Web Site with a repository for the Library of ANSI ASC X12 Version 4010 AIA IC's and associated documents developed by the Electronic Commerce Working Group.

NOTE:
Implementation of the EDI Solution does not preclude development and use of internet-based e-commerce as the emerging technology becomes available.
