Position Summary:

The role of Manager, International Affairs is to support the strategic and operational goals of the International Affairs division as it develops defense, commercial trade, and export control policy on behalf of AIA members and supports the execution of the international air and trade show activities. In this capacity, the Manager, International Affairs will be responsible for a comprehensive range of daily and long-term projects. Strong organizational and execution skills, the ability to move quickly between projects and organizational knowledge of AIA is critical to success.

Activities may be related to any area of the International Division portfolio but is expected to focus primarily on U.S. and international regulatory policy. Likely issue areas include defense and commercial trade policy, including foreign military sales, export controls, the foreign regulatory environment, regulatory impact of bilateral and multilateral treaties, global offset policies and technology security. Support to policy roundtables at international air and trade shows will be part of the Manager, International Affairs portfolio.

This position reports to the Vice President for International Affairs.

Core Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support all efforts led by staff liaisons for the International team’s councils, committees and working groups (CCWG’s)
  • Maintain CCWG meeting briefing materials and distributes meeting notices and materials to member company representatives.
  • Draft, edit, and develop content-based materials for CCWG efforts such as memos, minutes, remarks, agendas, letters, backgrounders, and white papers – often for C-suite or government audiences.
  • Coordinate department projects and initiatives with AIA legislative, communications, membership, and fellow policy teams at AIA (National Security, Civil and Space).
  • Serve as division/company representative in internal and external meetings.
  • Monitor government Federal Register Notices, Congressional hearings and proceedings, and press reports to identify emerging issues or trends related to international regulatory issues that could impact the aerospace/defense industry.
  • Interface with U.S. and foreign government agencies and industry associations as directed.
  • Provide coordination for international air and trade shows, primarily focused on execution of policy-focused dialogues and interacting with senior industry and U.S. Government officials.

Qualifications and Experience:

Experience Required

  • A minimum of 3 years’ work experience with a knowledge of international and trade regulatory and policy issues, preferably as they relate to the aerospace/defense industry and/or export controls.
  • Experience working with U.S. government agencies such at Departments of Defense, State, and Commerce, etc. is valued.
  • Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in customer service, and proven ability to respond to internal and external requests for assistance promptly, professionally, and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at the highest corporate, government, and regulatory agency levels.
  • Self-starter who can take general direction and produce specific results.
  • Works and responds as a team-player to all division and organizational staff.
  • Ability and desire to travel, including international travel.


  • College degree in political science, government affairs, international affairs, business, or related field required or comparable work experience.
