AIA Applauds Release of National Security Strategy
December 18, 2017
The Aerospace Industries Association applauded the Administration’s release of the National Security Strategy earlier today, calling it a strong foundation for the future.
“The National Security Strategy acknowledges that a strong and resilient industrial base is a cornerstone of American security,” said AIA President and CEO David F. Melcher. “As an organization and an industry committed to delivering American strength, security, and prosperity, we look forward to partnering with the administration on achieving the goals of this strategy.”
For nearly a century, AIA has advanced policies and responsible budgets that keep America’s interests safe and economy strong. Working closely with stakeholders from across government, AIA has called for actions that ensure the health of the nation’s industrial base, including contributions to the Trump Administration’s Executive Order assessing the health of the manufacturing and defense industrial base.
The strategy also supports the growth of new markets, including expansion of trade and investment opportunities; in 2016 alone, the U.S. aerospace industry set a fifth consecutive record for exports, with a $90 billion trade surplus. AIA has long advocated for policies that improve American competitiveness, create jobs, and reduce foreign and domestic barriers to trade of aerospace and defense products and services.
“We are pleased to see that the Strategy recognizes that a vibrant industrial base depends on robust, balanced and stable funding, streamlined regulations, stronger trade and security partnerships with our allies, and a talented and motivated workforce,” said Melcher. “The patriotic workforce, 2.4 million strong, and the innovation at the heart of our industry is the foundation of America’s safety and security.”
