AIA Welcomes Passage of Perkins Career and Technical Education Reauthorization

Arlington, Va. — The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) welcomes passage by the House and Senate of H.R. 2353, the “Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act.” The bill is a major step towards giving workers and students the skills they need to land high-skill, high-wage and in-demand jobs in the aerospace and defense industry. We look forward to President Trump signing the bill into law.

“We have more job openings in the aerospace and defense industry than qualified applicants looking for work,” said AIA President and CEO Eric Fanning. “Reauthorizing and modernizing the Perkins Act goes a long way towards addressing this skills gap and providing greater access to the skills and education required for 21st century jobs in our industry and across the entire economy.”

AIA applauds Senators Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and Bob Casey (D-Penn.), as well as Representatives Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) and Bobby Scott (D-Va.), for their leadership in promoting and passing this bipartisan bill. We commend House leadership for bringing up the Senate-amended bill and passing it quickly. We appreciate Congressional attention to this key issue and for providing real solutions to our growing workforce needs.
