AIA Welcomes Section 809 Panel Report

Arlington, Va. — AIA applauds today’s release of the Volume III Report from the Advisory Panel on Streamlining and Codifying Acquisition Regulations (‘Section 809 Panel’). Since its establishment by Congress in 2016, AIA has recognized the Section 809 Panel as a critical resource in the effort to foster innovation, limit costs and barriers, and accelerate delivery in the U.S. defense acquisition system.

“To execute the National Defense Strategy, the Department of Defense needs an acquisition system that doesn’t just work, but works well,” said John Luddy, Vice President of National Security Policy at AIA. “The Panel has done the important – if not so glamorous – work of identifying specific ways to improve U.S. procurement practices and strengthen America’s defense.”

Congress has already enacted past recommendations from the Panel that streamline DOD’s procurement of commercial items and modernize oversight measures to better protect taxpayer dollars. The Trump Administration has also emphasized the Panel’s important contributions to improve government business and procurement practices. We are pleased to see the Volume III report dive further into opportunities for greater government-industry collaboration, and the Report’s call for a ‘Dynamic Marketplace Framework’ – a central component of its recommendations to streamline the acquisition system.

AIA looks forward to further review of the contents of the Volume III report, and to continuing to partner with Congress and the Administration to ensure that our defense acquisition system provides the best tools possible for our men and women in uniform.
