AIA Welcomes Confirmation of Mark Esper as Secretary of Defense

Arlington, Va. — Since Secretary Mattis’ departure at the end of 2018, the Department of Defense has been without Senate-confirmed leadership in its top spot. We welcome the Senate’s action today to confirm Mark Esper as the 27th Secretary of Defense and provide critical stability at the Pentagon.

Having served in the military, at the Department of Defense, on Capitol Hill, at a policy think-tank, and in industry, Mark will bring deep and well-rounded experience to this role at a moment when the United States needs to leverage every resource to confront a complex global landscape.

Close partnership and constant collaboration between industry and government is essential if we’re going to innovate as quickly as the National Defense Strategy requires. U.S. warfighters depend on the connection between government and industry for the world’s most innovative and sophisticated weapons and systems.

We look forward to working with Secretary Esper in his new role to meet these demands.
