Greg Smith is chief financial officer and executive vice president of Enterprise Performance & Strategy at Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners, defense, space and security systems, and provider of global services.
Smith is responsible for Boeing’s overall financial and strategic management, including the company’s financial reporting and long-range business planning. He oversees Business Operations, Controller, Corporate Development, Strategy, Treasury, and other corporate functions with the overall goal of accelerating innovation and driving market-based affordability across the company. Additionally, he leads enterprise program management and general management, as well as the companywide Total Enterprise Quality effort to drive first-time quality through all aspects of the enterprise. He also has executive responsibility for Boeing Capital Corporation, the company’s global financing arm.
Smith’s portfolio also includes the enterprise growth strategy, including Boeing HorizonX focused on new business ventures to unlock game-changing products and markets, the One Boeing integration of the company’s organizations and initiatives, and assisting the chief executive officer in setting enterprise goals and developing the senior leadership team.
Smith, 52, has extensive operational and financial experience in Boeing’s commercial, defense and space businesses over two decades of service. He was named chief financial officer in 2011 after serving as corporate controller and vice president of Finance. In that role, he served as the company’s principal interface with the board of directors’ audit committee and ensured financial disclosures and regulatory compliance were timely, transparent and efficient.
Prior to that, he was vice president of Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis, leading business plan development, financial forecasting, financial analysis, and capital commitment planning, as well as competitive analysis and benchmarking. Smith rejoined Boeing in 2008 after holding the position of vice president of Global Investor Relations at Raytheon. Before Raytheon, Smith was controller for Boeing’s Shared Services Group and held key leadership roles in supply chain, factory operations, finance, and program management.
Smith serves on the board of directors of Intel Corporation, the Economic Club of Chicago, Lurie Children’s Hospital and Northwestern Medicine Community Physicians Group. He is married with three children and lives in the Chicago area.
