Arlington, Va – Aerospace Industries Association President and CEO Eric Fanning released the following statement today after President Trump announced a deal with the United Kingdom to remove tariffs on commercial aircraft and jet engines.

“AIA welcomes today’s announcement to lower trade barriers for commercial aircraft, jet engines, and their parts and components under the Agreement on Trade and Civil Aircraft with the United Kingdom,” Fanning said. “We commend President Trump for pursuing deals that put the American aerospace industry first by protecting U.S. manufacturing jobs, driving economic growth, and growing our exports. The longstanding special relationship that we have with the United Kingdom—routinely a top import and export destination for American aerospace and defense products—will only be deepened by this deal.

“AIA has been a champion of agreements such as these that affirm our standing as the leader in commercial aviation, and we are grateful to see the Administration share our view of the American aerospace and defense industry. We encourage the Trump Administration to continue to pursue fair and reciprocal bilateral agreements.”

In May, AIA released a white paper urging the Trump Administration to uphold the 1979 agreement and allow for duty-free access for commercial aerospace goods.
