Arlington, Va. — Following the statement by U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Canadian Minister of Transportation Omar Alghabra on the nexus between transportation and climate change, Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning released the following statement reaffirming AIA’s commitment to partnering with government leaders:

“We commend Secretary Buttigieg and Minister Alghabra on their collaborative efforts to address climate change. AIA and our members welcome this focus on the sustainability of air travel by the Biden Administration and global leaders. International cooperation is essential to address this challenge.

“Our industry looks forward to working with the government to reduce our climate impacts—both domestically and through the International Civil Aviation Organization. By working together to significantly increase the amount of sustainable aviation fuel while accelerating the development of next-generation aircraft technology, we can help reduce carbon emissions and realize a greener future.”

Earlier this month, Fanning sent a letter to the Biden Administration highlighting the importance of partnerships between government and industry to improve the sustainability of air travel.
