Arlington, Va – Aerospace Industries Association President and CEO Eric Fanning released the following statement after President Trump announced a deal with the European Union (E.U.) to remove tariffs on commercial aircraft and jet engines.

“Lowering trade barriers with our European allies—many of whom are our top trading partners already—deters our adversaries, deepens our relationships, and, ultimately, grows the American aerospace and defense workforce. Trade deals that open markets drive innovation, competition, and create American jobs in all 50 states, and this deal will do just that by agreeing to zero-for-zero tariffs on commercial aerospace products,” Fanning said. “AIA is proud to have championed agreements like these that have been the catalyst for our sector’s tremendous growth. We are grateful that President Trump and his Administration recognize the importance of our sector to the national and economic security of the United States, and we look forward to our continued advocacy as these deals materialize.

“We also look forward to working with the Administration to ensure U.S. defense products are not excluded from the E.U. market, especially since Transatlantic defense trade relationships are long-standing and reciprocal in nature.”
