Vern Heyer

Board Member & Partner, LAI International

Vern Heyer has spent over 30 years in the aerospace supply chain working to provide technology and process improvements to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). During the course of his career, Vern has built a substantial network within the aerospace industry and assisted various companies with operations efficiencies and growth strategies through board positions and investments. He has been active with AIA throughout his career.

Prior to working in the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) industry, Vern worked at the McDonnell Douglas Corporation as a lead aerospace engineer on programs such as the International Space Station, MDX Helicopter, and F/A-18 Hornet.

Vern then transitioned to Siemens PLM, the largest PLM Company in the world, and worked as a multi-year, award-winning business development executive. 

In 2009, Vern founded VMH International Inc., a value-added provider of PLM software to future-forward manufacturing companies. VMH International was a consultative organization, acting as the bridge between OEMs and suppliers by offering software solutions with PLM and complimentary automation software systems. In 2016, Vern sold the majority of VMH International to Sconce Solutions Ltd.

In 2019, Vern participated in the acquisition LAI International, LLC and he is currently serving as the managing partner and as a member of the board. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vern created LAI International’s strategy to provide a balance of aerospace and medical business models. Under Vern’s leadership, LAI International obtained COVID-19 incentives from both state and federal organizations allowing the company to retain all employees.

In 2022, Vern participated in the acquisition of GM Diecron, LLC where he also serves as a board member. With this acquisition, Vern provided a more comprehensive solution to the aerospace industry by pairing automated 5-axis machining with assembly capabilities.

Vern earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Iowa State University. He continues to be active with Science Technology Engineering and Manufacturing (STEM) initiatives with young engineers, including collaboration with both large OEMs and suppliers such as Boeing. Mr. Heyer currently resides in Nashville, TN with his wife Kricky and enjoys golf, boating and spending time with his two children.
